Summit First Thursday returns on Thursday, July 2, with art, music, and a great reason to do a stay-cay in Summit.

Start your morning at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey with a free watercolor workshop from 10–11 AM. This relaxed, welcoming workshop explores how making art can help us slow down, center ourselves, and enjoy the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful. It is perfect for beginners and fun for people with watercolor experience too. Space is limited, please register at https://paybee.io/in-person-event/vacnj/17
Before or after the workshop, stop by the Summit Free Public Library to see Denise Mortensen: The Things We Keep, on view from 9 AM–9 PM. Mortensen’s paintings are inspired by shelves, vessels, and the everyday objects that quietly gather meaning over time. It is a thoughtful exhibition about memory, identity, and the things we choose to hold onto.
Then make an evening of it with Summit Street Sounds from 5–8 PM at various downtown locations. Enjoy live music, grab dinner at one of Summit’s restaurants, browse local shops, and take in the energy of downtown on a summer evening.
Whether you come for one event or spend the whole day exploring, First Thursday is a wonderful way to support local arts, local businesses, and the creative spirit of Summit.
